8th Birthday's and Running...What Life's About

Well on Sunday, my baby will be 8. I have no idea how that happened..well I do, but can't believe how fast it's gone by. It was just yesterday that she was born, it seems, and now she's going to be 8. Thing is, thought she would never come, took forever, those years dragged on. But now that she's here....zoom gone in a flash!

Here's my baby one day old

Stay tuned for the 8th birthday photos!

As for running, I completed my second 5 Peaks Trail Race on Saturday at Hardwood Hills. I did the Enduro event, which was about 12.2km. It was so much fun. There's a lot to be said about trail racing and hopefully one day, I'll be better at it (at least the big toenail on my left foot hopes so). I did much better this time then in the first one at Albion Hills. Here are the official stats:

Time: 1:33:19 (7:39/km)
Overall: 142/215
Category: 18/32
Gender: 51/94

A big improvement over the first race. We started at the back of the pack which is probably not the wisest, as it makes it hard to pass. However, being relative beginners to the trail circuit, we don't want to interfere with faster/competitive runners. I think we need to figure out where is the best place to start. Based on their stated waves, that would have put us (based on road race results) at the front of the pack which clearly, is not the place for a beginner trail runner. However the back of the pack is not it either...maybe somewhere in the middle next time.

The course was a lot of fun. I think a lot of people took wrong turns and things, but if you listened to the instructions at the beginning and followed the correct mountain bike route (ours was "gnarly"), then even without 5 Peaks signs, you wouldn't get lost.

Haven't registered for the next one yet, but definitely going to. If I can find one where the date works, I'll be there.

Happy Birthday to her! And I think that's a darn fine time for a trail race. Would hate to think how long it would take me! Glad you had fun.
