Let the Summer Begin

Well Amelia finished grade 2. I can't believe she'll be going into grade 3 in September. Yesterday was her last day of school (today is a PA day), and the summer has begun!

We are starting our summer off with Canada Day on Friday, and we are doing the Barrie Canada Races at Heritage Park. Amelia is running the 1K and I am running the 10K. I haven't run a 10K race in a while so figured it would be a good time to do it. We both did these races 2 summers ago (2009) and that was actually her first race ever. I did the 10K that year as well and wasn't crazy about the double loop of the course (I have trouble with those) but figured I survivied it once, I will again. I'm running a 5K next weekend so didn't want to do to 5K races in a row.

I officially started my 16 week training plan with Canadian Running Magazine Marathon Quest on Monday, and the first week of the plan calls for a 10K long run. So it fits in. I don't think however, that I will be able to use their training plan for the rest of the 15 weeks. It's a great plan and if I could get outside to run more I would certainly follow it. However, as my week night runs are restricted to the treadmill for the most part, pulling out 8 or 9 mile runs is just too tough. So I think I'll flip back to my old training plan for the rest of the training cycle. I still would have joined Marathon Quest as I like the emails, guidance and other perks that go along with the registration (including a VIP waiting area and bagage check at the race).

So that's that, let the summer begin!

WooHoo for Amelia...time sure races by. Good luck with those races in Barrie and also on your marathon training. I'm going to start looking for some runs for my kids this summer too...please let me know if you know of any other good ones.

Which marathon are you looking to do?

Thanks. Rebecca's Run is next Saturday in Newmarket and they have a 1K run. Amelia not doing that one though. She's registered for her first kid's tri Aug 6 in Bracebridge. That looks like fun.

I'm going to be doing Scotiabank Marathon in October! You?

Congrats To Amelia. They grow up fast don't they?

Hopefully I will see you tomorrow. My DD is running the kids 1K and I will be running the 5K, I knew I wouldn't be up to another 10K a few days apart ;)

Happy Canada day! I love it when they have running events for the kids. All the best with the 10k and your marathon training. I'm running a 10k race on Sunday but just because I haven't run a 10k race for a very long time now.
