My First Race Bail

On Friday Amelia and I attended the Barrie Canada Day Races. I was supposed to run the 10K. Started out way tooooo fast (about 4:19 for first km), and had a hard time recovering after that. It's a double loop course so as I approached the turn around to start the second loop I thought, do I really want to do do all that again...nope. Since the bail out was such an easy option, I took it.

The marshall was saying "no go this way for the 10K" and I'm like "no I'm bailing out" to which he said "oh ok". I finished the 5K and the timing guy was nice enough to switch me to the 5K event, so I didn't have a DNF.

My official results were 25:53 (gun time as there was no mat at the start) which resulted in a 51/272 overall finish; 7/59 for my age category (F40+); and 19/184 for women. Not to shabby for a bail out! Here are some photos of me just before I took the 5K turn off that my sister took. There are obviously, no finish line photos.

Amelia ran the 1K and had a great time. It was not a timed result so not sure how long it took her. She finished around the middle of the pack.

It was nice to meet fellow bloggers on Saturday as well Bella and Marlene, both of who ran amazing races (Marlene finished 3 overall female)

Saturday saw Amelia and I strawberry picking in the morning, and seeing Judy Moody in the afternoon. On Sunday, we made some strawberry jam (Amelia mashes the strawberries). A very busy and tiring, but fun weekend.

Marathon training is certainly going to be hard this summer, with all the other fun stuff to do, but going to try and get in as much as I can! I bought a new stand up fan for my room, that hopefully in addition to the ceiling fan and air conditioning, make the treadmill runs a little more tolerable.

That's a good 5k time anyway so well done! Nothing to be ashamed of that you didn't complete the 10k. Bet you weren't the only one who did that. Have a great week!
