A New 5K PB

Yesterday I ran Rebecca's Run for SMA in Newmarket. I had a couple of friends with me, including my friend's 15 year old daughter. Her personal best for a 5K was around 27 minutes and I knew she could go faster. So I decided to pace her (though at times during the race I think she hoped I'd leave her). I still managed to get a personal best as well with a time of 25:19 (a PB by 4 seconds). I finished 76/334 overall; 5/35 for age/gender placement; 21/195 for females. My young friend managed to finish in 25:16 which gave her a 2nd place in her age group of 15-19. She's also only been 15 for about 6 days so that result is super awesome. She also has asthma and had to puff 3 times during the race and took 2 water breaks...so even better considering that! We were all super proud of her. Here are some photos. The first is both of us on course and the 2nd is me crossing the finish line.

That wasn't all of my running for the day. I ran a 10K before the race and 8K after the race for a total of 23K (14 miles) for the day. It was super hot out yesterday and got a nice sun burn to show for it, but all in all a good day!

Rebecca's Run is a great cause, raising money for SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) and it was great seeing the photos of the SMA children along the route, including Jacob Procter-Trick a beautiful little 2003 (same as Amelia) boy who I followed that unfortunately passed away in 2005 from Type 1 SMA. Jacob is definitely not forgotten.

You ran 10K and then got a PB at the 5K that morning?! That's great!
