Boston Marathon Registration...

...opens on Monday for two days, for those runners who ran 20 minutes or faster than their qualifying time. The next four days to those running 10 and 5 minutes faster, respectively. Then on Friday registration will close and re-open on Monday, September 19 at 10:00 am for those who qualified but by less than 5 minutes.

So there was a lot of speculation on running boards etc as to how this would work, the 2nd week of registation. So I decided to email the BAA and ask, as it wasn't covered in the FAQ section of the site.

Here is the response:

To clarify the selection process during the second week of registration for 2012, the BAA will select times that are fastest in relationship to their qualifying standard. For example, if a 58 year old male achieved a 3:42:30, he would have bested his required time by 2 min and 30 seconds. If a 38 year old male achieved a 3:13:30, he would have bested his required time by 1 min and 30 seconds. Because the 58 year old man's time is faster in relationship to the standard for his age and gender, his time would be selected before the 38 year old man's.

So I qualified about 2:30 minutes faster than my qualifying standard. What does that mean? Who knows there probably won't be any spots left after the first week of registration anyway, but we'll see.....certainly going to try!

I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed for you (and as my German relatives say, I will also push my thumbs).
