One Week To Go!

Well there is less than one week to go until my 5th marathon...Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. This event is somewhat of my nemesis. The first year I started running, in 2008 I did the 5K (my second race). I misjudged the distance and had a really hard time finishing. Crossed the finish line and thought I would die...not a great race. I was just learning and didn't pace right and made a whole collection of errors. The 2nd year, 2009, I did the half marathon (my second half marathon). My friend Oliver paced me to my first sub 2:00 half marathon, and while we met the goal, to this day, I can say it was one of the hardest races I ever ran. It was tough. If he was not there, I surely would have slowed down. Last year, I ran the marathon. It was horrible. Started out way too fast, and at 11K my Nike+ disconnected from the Ipod so I lost my timing/pacing device. Was running blind so to speak. Was trying for a BQ (4:00:59) and started using the clocks (gun time) to pace. Overestimated how long it took me to cross the start mat and started "allowing" myself time to walk. Started doing the death march in the last 6K even 2K out from the finish was walking. Knew I would kick myself if I fell short but couldn't get my brain co-operate. Ended up running a PB but missed the BQ by just over 1 minute. In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't qualify because it was not a great race. I didn't want to qualify that way.

So here I go again, Scotiabank...what will it bring me this year...I'm hoping a clean race. I love this event but so far, it doesn't love me!

As for this past weekend, Amelia and I headed up to Ottawa where we participated in the Somersault Events - Fall Colours 3K. This was Amelia's first 3K race and she did awesome. Here are her results:

Time: 19:39
73/144 overall
34/73 females
22/35 category (which is 13 and under...she's only 8)

So all in all...awesome!

Big congrats to Amelia! Another runner in the family for sure.

Can't believe it's race week - I hope Scotia treats you well this time around. I've had my ups and downs with that race. :)

All the best for the marathon. May you have a great run this year. It's funny but over the years a few races have become my nemesis as well. I even have a city that I try not to race in. I always have bad races there. Amelia did really great, well done!
